Building homes for flood victims in the Philippines

Building homes for flood victims in the Philippines: While in the Philippines, we had the amazing privilege of assisting people and community groups who are dedicated to seeing lives transformed, especially in marginalised and often neglected communities.  Our family was amazed at the level of dedication and sacrifice infused into their passion to make a difference in other peoples lives.  One of whom is an amazing couple Tom and Evelyn MacIntosh who have dedicated their lives to giving from their own resources and energy to see lives transformed from a place of desperateness and bringing hope for a better future.  Friends of ours in the Philippines invited us to join them for a day of house building for families who lost their homes due to Typhoon Pablo, in December 2012.  Our own schedule was booked the same day and we therefore made the decision to split our family for the day to cover both appointments.

My wife and children went with the group to help with the house building while I travelled approximately 3 hours away to establish a working partnership with the Maritime and Ports Authority of Davao City to promote and involve marginalised skilled boat builders in a community business project we are working towards in Mati City.

Our children were inspirational in their capacity to fully immerse themselves in the house builds.  Ranging from 13years old down to 4 years old, they gave of themselves physically towards a goal much larger than their own comfort zones.  5 hours later, our children were still working in the intense heat with the team to help build these homes!
