Saskatchewan Canada ‘where heaven meets earth’

Saskatchewan Canada where heaven meets earth:

Traveling around Canada really helps to make you understand the vastness of the earth.  As you drive for miles on end with open country taking the Trans Canada highway, you are struck with the feeling of awe and wonder.  The photographic opportunities are endless with nature, wildlife and cultural opportunities presenting itself at every corner. The people are warm and welcoming and always ready to extend a helping hand or some advice for the traveller such as myself.

As I was driving south east through small cities such as Medicine Hat, Swift Current, Cadillac and stopping in the Village of Val Marie I was greeted by some wildlife from the road side.

On this particular trip, I have slimmed my equipment down using mostly the Fuji X E1 with the e18-55mm lens and the Fuji X100 for my day to day carry around kit.  However, when photographing wildlife, the speed of the Nikon D700’s autofocus and extended range provided by the Nikon 28-300mm lens is unbeatable.  I have photographed the attached images using the Nikon D700 as speed and focal length dictated. The leaping deer was a beautiful moment where the sun was setting and the warm sunset light was just perfect for a shot. They often call this the golden hour and as photographers, this is part of the thrill of the chase to not only capture the beauty of the subject but to paint the image with the correct lighting.  I therefore waited until the sun began to set before taking the camera out of its bag.  I must admit, this was lazy wildlife photography as the images were all taken from the comfort of my rental vehicle at the road side, but I guess this is also the advantage of travelling in Canada as you can take the more lazy route and still capture some great images.
